Man, first it is my blog that gets me into trouble now it is my photos.. check out this email we got from the Maui Sails France importer.. pretty crazy dont you think??
"I was informed today by Fabrice that the June issue of Wind Magazine carried a small article that Kevin had performed the Photo Shoot for Gaastra and Tabou to the angst of the Pro Photographers in the market and the general media community was intending from that point forward to boycott images of Kevin. By being a pro windsurfer AND a photographer, Kevin upsets all the pro photographers, and they respond by not taking any photos of him or not publishing any shots of him. There was an article in WIND magazine about that called Boycott."
Well maybe in France but it seems like my coverage this year is pretty good. I actually just saw some shots of mine in Wind Magazine, one of Robby Swift and one of Robby Naish.. So that is pretty cool.
Anyhow just sitting around in Aus now waiting for the wind. We had some sick days down in Margrets with Mast high plus waves. Was pretty big and knarly and scary, especially on the opposite side waveriding than I am normally used to.. Thats all for now..

Yeah, but we're talking France. Go figure.
So, were any of the pro photographers named or quoted? Sounds like this is someone who's just trying to mess with you and stir things up.

Don't forget that everything get's muddled in the translation between French and English or German. This is what causes wars. Maybe you should start taking photos of the photographers? Anyway, I'ld like to see some of Australia.

Could it be true, or not. If it is true, it means just one thing: ""other"" pro photographers know they can't offer better images, so they have to defend their position with different means than personal abilities.

Hi, I'm french and I've readen Wind, and they really said that some photographers gonna ""boycott"" you. maybe it's just bullshit, but if it is true it is really unfair.

No, it isn't a translation problem, david...unfortunately... It seems they are as dumb as it seems. Kevin's coverage, even for his world title, wasn't as big as we could expect. And for this season, the slalom reports have not shown more than a couple shots with kevin's sail cut in the middle to show someone else.

This is soo stupid. I the magazines support this I will boycott them...

Well it sounds like the translation is correct that the french mag has indeed printed something with some kind of boycott.. That is pretty lame if you ask me. One problem is that some of the best photographers are french. It is a bummer if that happens because in my opinion guys like Jerome Houvet and Bernard Biancoto are some of the best photog's in the buisness. Even Charles Oreve has come onto the windsurf scene in the last few years and has had great sucess but I know all these guys and they all talk to me about all kinds of photography and they all seem like they like me so I dont really know what the problem is.. I also am in contact with the magazines and like I said, they have just used two of my shots for their editorial.
Anyhow, if any of the photographers that are boycotting me want to come and do a PWA event and want to compete against me in windsurfing I am happy fo

Well said Kev!

Well said Kevin!
As you said, a good deal of photographers are french, and your coverage in the magazines isn't what it should be, obviously!!

You're getting to that age as an athelete that would mean that your most impressive photos have been taken, Kev. I wouldn't sweat loosing that aspect of your career as much as your ability to photograph. This kind of attention won't hurt your reputation.
12Comment at Wednesday, 31 December 1969 13:33
I just think you are one of the best and all publicity is good !!!! and in france everybody respect you
13Comment at Wednesday, 31 December 1969 13:33
I say: time will tell if your photos will be used or not. If they're good, they'll probably be used.
And yeah, what if photographers will go pro? Haha...
Like we say in Holland:
This goes nothing about! :P

Kev.
Chill mate, this is the french for you, (not being mean to all the cool french out there) but like anywhere in the world sometimes people get a little green with envy, especially as a pro windsurfer your doing as good as them in fotos.
However. if you want to organize a kev verses the foto guys in a windsurf event, i will pay for a ticket.
You could even strap that little camera you have to your mast and do fotos at the same time. beat them twice at the same time.
Go KEV.

My goodness Bruce. That isn't true at all.
Kev, you rip at a lot of things and most of them just keep getting better. Especially your windsurfing. Good example (though not the same as you) is Mark Angulo. He is feeling great and his watersports are on form at what age ? Ah the French.... Kind of like the Yanks. Can't live with them can't shoot them.
wait a minute.... ? yes you can ! Just make sure the film and camera has an approved appellation......

i was thinking that in a way its good that the mag reported the issue. then people can vote with there own opinions in mind. It is kind of a compliment in disguise if one thinks about it .These photogs guys dont like competition so that means your photos are good enough to be in the ring competing!! also i always thought your photo career was a hedge against time, ie: no pros last forvever mind you some seem to ( naish the legend ) but he even branched out into ""naish"" brand gear so he was keeping his options open too!!
17Comment at Wednesday, 31 December 1969 13:33
Well Brucie ya really stuck your foot in it that time . Ignorance abounds !
Does your mom know your acting out on the internets again ?
18Comment at Wednesday, 31 December 1969 13:33
People boycotted me as a windsurfing photographer, but I was not quite in Kev's league. Tell me who these guys are and I'll pound them to poidust.
